Farewell & the Passing of the Torch!

By ansleywest17

Dear Pink Chronicle Readers, this is my farewell entry and the official passing of the torch to our gracious lady Lisa. She has asked a very special friend of the family to help her with the Chronicle’s daily duties.

Drum Roll Please! Mary Office!

Mary is a friend to everyone she meets and faithful follower of God. All who know this glorious woman know that she will only add to the Pinky’s success. Mary and Lisa have been friends for so long its hard to remember when these two ladies joined forces so its only fitting that they continue to write this journal together.

I have trained both for the upcoming tasks especially on unknown vocabulary terms which creep up in these women’s speech. I do not want to accuse them of making up and adapting slang words, but sometimes it just slips out so I have coached them on such words like because not cause. (Ladies, I will be proof reading from afar.)

Mary has been Lisa’s best friend though this title does no justice to the description she deserves. She has mastered so many professions for Lisa that historians that impossible for one woman to perfect. Mary has become a masseuse, cook, consultant, psychologist, spiritual advisor, mechanic, friend of George’s and so much more in the West household. There is nothing this lady is not capable of. She truly wears many hats slash scirfs in our house. She is the perfect person for the job so we at the Chronicle are so happy she has joined our team.

I am sad to have to leave my duties behind for the next month, but will hopefully try to ghost write Wednesdays and Fridays if Uganda permits. Africa challenges Western ways especially in the “time” department but I will be trying my hardest.

I just want to thank everyone for following our blog. The Chronicle has been like I lifeline for my mother and I. It has meant the world to us to have so many readers and writers. I know I have not spoken with everyone personally, but I have felt everyone’s support & love through all the comments and readership. Ellen, Roberta, Susan, Maribeth, Deborah, Annelly, and so many more have meant the world to me. I have felt so close to everyone writing into our daily posts.

This is my last Lisa report until April 19, her last chemo! I will be traveling back for this special celebration. I feel like I have lived five years in only a few months. When I found out my mother had cancer, I thought my world had ended. It has been quite the journey to realize that her breast cancer has only created a deeper composition. She has taught me the healing power of love, faith, and laughter even in our darkest hours. A silver liner does exist if you decide to see it.

I conclude this entry with another great Lisa report. Her spirits are high and when I spoke with her earlier she relayed a message of jubilance. She spent the night at Lake Lanier with her two dear friends, Pam and Jane for a girl’s party. They all sang and danced to old high school tunes until midnight. Mom said she went wigless beginning at 7:00 and let her legs rock to the infamous chicken dance. The three girls also came across Harley boots somewhere in the North Georgia mountains, which Lisa claims are “the best looking thing” so next will be the motorcycle that I am sure her doctors and husband will be excited about.

Much love to all and please keep writing & reading The Pink Chronicle!

Ansley, I wish you a great, safe, fruitful trip to Uganda. I assume you won’t always be in four star hotels, so follow the dictates of your leaders about food, water and ice, and take lots of hand wipes, because you’re not used to the level of sanitation you may encounter and you want to return home healthy for the celebration!

Although your mother’s cancer is highly treatable, it requires aggressive protocols that usually produce side effects that would be very hard for a daughter to observe. You’ve been wonderful support for your mother, and are leaving her in good hands.

    Godspeed! Annelly

    Lisa,
I also wish you a safe journey to Uganda and back. Your dear, dear Mother will be in good hands while you are gone. I plan to be a part of that group after I get home next Friday, 3/19.

Courtney and have talked about how wonderful this blog has been for everyone and how talented you all are in putting this together. What a blessing this has been.

I just heard a song say LIFE THROWS YOU CURVES BUT YOU LEARN TO SWERVE ! This is just a blip in the road that your Mother will get through and be stronger for it.

    I love you all.

    take care,
    Cindy

Lisa- I admire your strength and unyielding faith through this tough time. You are in my thoughts and prayers daily.

Safe Travels, Ans! Can’t wait to hear about the trip. I’ll miss reading your entries. Hopefully, you’ll be able to send a few from Uganda:)

Ansley…I have so loved your writings and will miss your descriptive chronicle of your Mom’s journey. You are a beautiful daughter and your Mom is so blessed to call you “first born”. I wish you God’s blessing and peace on your African journey. I bought some beads made by Uganda women and gave them to daughters and friends for Christmas. Each time I wear mine with pride and I think of you and the work you are doing.
    Love and blessings to you…..D.D.

  6. Ellen Knox Says:

Ansley, thank you for starting the Pinky and for keeping us up to date on your mom’s progress in such a beautiful, touching way. We will miss your entries! But I know your successor will rise to the occasion. Wishing you a wonderful time in Uganda. Best of luck on your endeavors there!

Hope you are feeling great this weekend, Lisa!

    xxoo,
    Ellen
