Lisa had an adventurous Monday, discovering the new trends and pleasures of wearing hats vs. wigs. Louise & Joe Dodd, her dear parents, came down from the mountains of Big Canoe Georgia yesterday to spend the day with their daughter.
Louise & Joe decided to treat Lisa to The Piccadilly Cafeteria for lunch. This outing would also be the debut of her new wig. She was a bit nervous about her first wig outing, but was assured by her Mom & Dad that she looked great. When she arrived, Lisa patiently stood in the popular Atlanta cafeteria line and put her tray on the metal supports. She slid her plate down collecting vegetables and salad to try to reap the nutrients out of the cafeteria lunch. She sat down to wait for her parents to finish their food gathering, only to realize she was not alone in her baldness. The cafeteria was filled with other bald compatriots. Her lunch would be enjoyed amongst other baldies and she was the youngest & most stylish.
But, while eating her vegetables and salad, catastrophe struck. Her new wig slipped from her head and exposed her cute baldness to the room of elderly baldheads. She rushed to the restroom to straighten out the situation. She knew she had nothing to be embarrassed about because the cafeteria provided a room full of understanding, but realized that maybe wigs were not her thing. If you know Lisa, you know that she is one the most stylish mom’s in Atlanta. She is funkier and The Pink Chronicle will go as far to say too pretty for a wig.
After the incident, she returned to the table to discuss new hairdo options. A friend had told Lisa about a breast cancer shop in Northside hospital that sold hats and other items to try to make the effects of chemotherapy more comfortable and stylish. Besides the fact that wigs can slip off ones head, they can also be hot and itchy. I am not sure if any of you have seen the scene in Sex and the City when Samantha during her bout with breast cancer gives a speech at a cancer benefit. During the event she and many of the other women are sweating profusely from their wigs. She becomes so uncomfortable and fed up with the wig that she rips it off and many others quickly join in. This is a good depiction of the pleasures of wearing a wig. I understand that not all wigs are like this and many people have a wonderful time wearing wigs, but these are some of the common side effects.
The Northside gift shop offers an array of beautiful and most importantly comfortable hats. She chose two comfy and cute hats that she will wear long with her scarves. They also gave Mom shampoo made up of aloe and other soothing ingredients that will help with the tenderness.
Monday was a successful hat day, she learned about a great wig alternative that can be just as attractive when she does not feel like going through the hassle of a wig. Please let us know about any other hair options or great hat shops in Atlanta. Also, please write us about your own wig or hat story all comments are much appreciated. I know we can all learn from each other’s experiences.
